Apple Cider Vinegar: A Brief History

Apple cider vinegar is one of first experiments that humans had with fermenting fruit juices.
In that sense, wine as well as apple cider vinegar share same roots. In fact, the term vinegar is derived from latin words vinum (wine) and acer (sour) to form French word vyn egre which means sour wine.
Babylonians used vinegar 5000 years ago.

Ever since I started reading about apple cider vinegar about seven to eight years ago, I have been amazed by the cures and uses for apple cider vinegar.

It’s truly a magical drink. Mix it with honey and water and you even have a nice-tasting drink.

Let me list the various cures and benefits of apple cider vinegar diet:

Weight loss:
The major benefit of apple cider vinegar is weight loss. How does apple cider vinegar help in weight loss? That’s a topic for another article, but here I will explain in brief how apple cider vinegar is used for weight loss. First, the vinegar has organic acids and enzymes which help in reducing our appetite. So we eat less. The enzymes and natural bacteria in apple cider vinegar diet helps in increasing metabolism rate, which in turn causes our body to burn fat faster. Read my other articles on this topic.

Hair fall:
Apple cider vinegar can be used as hair conditioner. ACV has a pH factor of 4.5 to 5, which is close to the ideal pH factor for our body. ACV restores the balance of pH factor of our hair. It improves the health of our scalp, removes dandruff, and adds shine to our hair.

Apple cider vinegar has many other uses and cures too:
Skin care:

•Headaches, nausea
•Diabetes

Healthy cooking:
Apple cider vinegar is also used as a household cleaner. Apple cider vinegar is effective to treat pets too.
I can go on and on about the benefits of apple cider vinegar, but let’s get to the main topic: preparing a weight loss diet of apple cider vinegar.

Apple Cider Vinegar Dosage For Weight Loss
Because apple cider vinegar offers so many benefits, and has almost no side effects, you can (and should) include apple cider vinegar in your daily diet.

Here’s how to prepare your apple cider vinegar diet for weight loss:
Buy organic, unpasteurized, unfiltered apple cider vinegar from the market. All these three factors are important: organic, unpasteurized, unfiltered. The usual vinegar in the market is neither organic nor unfiltered. It doesn’t contain the “mother” of ACV – the grainy substance that you will see at the bottom of the bottle.

The mother of ACV is where all the beneficial bacteria and enzymes are found. So make sure you buy the right ACV. Read my other articles about choosing the right apple cider vinegar to buy.

Take 1 to 3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar, and mix it with one cup of lukewarm water. For taste, you can mix a spoon of honey too.

Drink this before every meal. Ideally, you should drink apple cider vinegar soon after waking up, and again in the evening before dinner. Because it creates a feeling of fullness, you are likely to eat less.

Some people prefer to mix ACV in tea, coffee, cola. While this is acceptable, I prefer to avoid mixing any caffeinated drink (tea, coffee, cola), or carbonated drink (soda) with apple cider vinegar. The caffeine can affect the absorption of cider vinegar in your diet.

Some people prefer to fill one litre of water bottle with a few teaspoons of ACV and take that bottle with them to work. This is perfect, as you will keep drinking ACV throughout the day.
Avoid drinking ACV undiluted. It is acidic and may cause damage to the enamel of your teeth. In fact, some people prefer to use a straw even while drinking apple cider vinegar mixed with water.
